205 over 235

Been looking around and found a set of tyres i want but there 205/80/16 for another £180quid i can get 235/85/16 - Do you think its worth the extra or would 205/80/16 do the job?

I have a 2inch lift at the moment and the woman recommended me the 235 but i can justify spending another £180 when i need to get other bits anyway.

These are Marix Lion MT 90% mud 10% road

Input would be great guys so i dont get them and find out there not what i wanted.
Im currently running 235/85/16

There's almost a 3" difference in diameter between the 205's & the 235's (235 being the larger). The 205's will look a little lost in the arches if you've got a 2" lift; plus you're going to notice a change in the gearing if you opt for the 205's.

Mines a 1985 Defender so its not one for speed anyway haha!

Basicly lads its justifying spending all that money out for tyres that there are more chance me ruining laning then wearing out. The size to arch thing did worry me because of the lift - think it has to be 235's then really.

Im stuggling mental getting hold of part worns at a decent price. there either near the price of new tyres or theres so little tread it isnt worth it
 
I've got the 235/85/16 Lion Marix tyres on mine and I can't fault them off road - very rarely lose grip.

Bit noisy on the road but more than tolerable and adds to the character of the vehicle.
Shockingly dangerous on cornering in the wet, but nothing an adjustment in driving doesn't see right.
 
I'd personally go for the 235/85s.
Bit more clearance for your diff pan, fill the arches better and wider track of grip. Well worth the extra $$. :)
 
I knew your answer would be that Mark - lol with all the other bits i want etc its a pain in the butt - why cant they do 205's for 235 money haha - Maybe part worns are the way forward instead untill next year when wifes back to work (just had a baby)
 
get the bigger tyres. If cost is an issue why not get some nearly new ones on fleabay or wait for them to come up regularly on here?
