I was thinking about doing a engine swap on our TDCI 2.4L defender and changing it to a V8. How much would it cost to do and what engine would be better, a Petrol or diesel V8

Probably 3.9L petrol from the Range Rover sort of thing. Are there any other alternatives for a diesel option.

I haven’t done anything similar. I was just wandering what the suggests would be as we are thinking how hard it would be. But the other option is remapping the engine with a mild tune

Well, depending on what you do.
You could be talking an engine / gearbox/ props, axles etc etc. not even discussing the brains that will need to be changed.
Just get it chipped and be done with it.
