200tdi without turbo

just fitted a 200tdi into my seies three, and went down the route of taking the turbo off, mainly because it was tight and after a lot of reading up on the pro's and cons it seemed a good option, now its up and running and it runs really fine, i am taking it for mot next week and my friendly mot man has asked me if i have had the pump altered, i said no as all the info on doing this conversion says there is no need to touch the pump just block the vacum pipe off, i must say there is hardly any smoke once warm, anybody agree with this

The fuelling should not need to be touched. The Boost Compensator should handle the turbocharging side of things. No turbo - no boost.

If you want you can make the motor more responsive by screwing down the smoke screw a little and/or turning the diapham....not by much though as when tweaking for power with the turbo fitted some smoke at low revs is considered exceptable as it dissappears when the turbo kicks in whereas you will have through the whole rev range and massively under load.

My diaphram is turned from 9'o'clock to 11'o'clock and the difference is quite noticeable, probably not in overall power but definately more responsive

The boost pipe MUST be left open to the outside air or atmosphere...with maybe a filter on its end...I just have some old rag wrapped around the pipe end held with a cable tie....with the pipe facing down,

If its simply bunged up with something it can most likely lead to smoking due to a pressure increase in the boost pipe and chamber when things heat up or cool down depending on when you sealed the pipe...with some ropey running,

A 200 should not smoke when cold apart from the puff on start-up due to the excess fuel devise,

I have run my 200 as a DI for over 2 years now in my 88 S111....thrilled to bits with its simplicity power and economy.

Hi sorry for stupid Q but how do u run a 200tdi without turbo my turbo pack in on my defender and the engine is not worth fitting a new one to so if I could drive it with out the turbo till I get replacement engine that would be great. Thanks.

You'd need to remove the turbo and blank it's mounting on the manifold, join the air intake pipe work and blank/block/bung a couple of bolts in the oil feed and return holes on the block........can't think of anything else

What I did was remover the complete 200 exhaust manifold with its turbo...and fit and exhaust manifold from a 2.25d with some small modifications,

That would not work for you due your exhaust being different...as stated remove the oil feed...I also needed to remove the oil thermostat that in the oil cooler pipe work.
