I wouldn’t have the hassle of doing seals again. It’s a bit awkward changing it on the Disco as their are some Air Con pipes that get in the way, but it should be easy enough on a Defender. I think I bought mine direct from this seller, then sent them my old one on an exchange basis so I didn’t have to wait on them refurbishing mine.

yeh I agree with you. Found a good sounding guy down in Cornwall so I think I’ll just get one.
I do enjoy rebuilding things but like to do it in my own time whilst still being able to drive. Think I’ll rebuild my old box as a spare.
Ask him if he chromes the output shaft though ? I seem to remember reading that SKF do shaft sleeves that have had good results in giving a better seal if your thinking of refurbishing yours. I have a spare one for the Disco I want to do the same with and I’m thinking of using one of these sleeves on that to see how it goes.
My Adwest 3 bolt steering box had been leaking a little for some time so with the MOT coming up I decided to replace it with a new one which had a 4 bolt pattern, this obviously cured the leak but also made the steering so much better , I had not realised how much wear had taken place in the old unit
