I have heard the words give her a good service and that often helps being said around the forum quite a lot. As a complete novice and someone who wants to avoid garages because they are mostly rip off B^%*@*s. CAn someone explain a good service to me. I have a 1991 200 TDi with over 200,000 miles on the clock. What oil and filters does the forum suggest I use for this vehicle. I am keen to get this right so that she might last as I am not too sure how long an engine with this mileage might last?

Thanks,

Alex.....

buy a manual, that'l tell you what oils are needed and quantities, change, oil, air and fuel filters, drain and re-fill engine oil, gearbox oil, transferbox `oil and both axle oils, make sure your swivel joints have oil (or grease)
if you havn't got a grease gun, buy one and give your prop shafts a good greasing, and any grease nipples you may find on the track rod ends and drag link ball joints. there might be a grease nipple on your steering drop arm as well, so give that a shot too
check your battery terminals for corrosion, clean and smear with vaseline, grease all door hinges and striker plates, if you feel like it take out all you light bulbs and give the inside a squirt of wd40.
If you don't have any problems with your engine smoking or being difficult to start then 200k is not too bad for these engines just keep on top of it and it should last a long time.
good luck and enjoy your land rover.
