Good evening. Is it possible for someone with a 200 tdi Discovery 1 engine in a series 3 to measure the oil dipstick from the end to plastic flange above the O ring on the handle, as mine has broken off just above max level on dipstick and I need to make one up because I cannot get one local to were I am in Manchester. and if it possible to measure the length of the dipstick tube to the hex nut on engine as this looks a bit of a cock up.Thanks Steve

I’ll have a look tomorrow night
Thanks Steve.. I forgot to mention. if possible the dimension of low level to end of dipstick and full level to end of dipstick as I might have to use the existing dip stick but shorten the dipstick tube and relocate top fixing bracket,.as I don't have the piece that broke off. sorry about messing you about .Thanks Steve

No probs
You’ll see from pic my set up
I used the dipstick to measure tube from top of nut to end of tube this was 500mm
The dipstick length from end to O ring on handle was 650mm
The end of dipstick to low was 17.5mm and to high level a further 15mm so 32.5mm

I had a kink in bottom of tube which was catching the dipstick making it hard to remove , I hammered flat the twist in end and it’s ok now

Thanks Steve, That's very good of you for the information.,Like yourself my dipstick was stiff to use but end must have broke off .into sump, at the moment trying to retrieve bit out of sump firstly removed dipstick tube fishing about with telescopic magnet no luck .borrowing a snake camera ?

Might be easier going in through the sump plug hole
I can’t see it doing any harm it can’t get sucked up into pump as the mesh on the oil pump is quite fine
So you could just wait till next oil change , daft question is it magnetic some stainless ain’t
