Alright all!

My 200 tdi has started playin up.

Started about a week go. First i noticed it wasnt starting on the first turn of the key like it used to. Then noticed that periodically it struggles on tick over. Now its happening more regular. When ya foots down and your motoring along, no problem. But when it drops back to tick over its struggling and sometimes cutting out.

I have recenly had the head off. Valves, brasses, pushrods, cambelt, and all other bits replaced. When it was all put back together everything run great for a couple of weeks. Much smoother.

Since having this problem I have replaced the fuel return (spiller pipe) as it had a couple of spilts in it. Replaced the fuel filter. Also just changed the lift pump as was advisd that the seals may have gone in it causing the fuel to drain back. The old lift pump was not pumping so must have been nackered.

After all this its still playing up! Anyone got any info as to what it might be?

Thanks in advance!

nice 1 for the reply OD!

I did check the air filter the other day, when i replaced the fuel filter. It didnt look bad. Not bad enough to stop the airflow anyway.

With it being a turbo. If I just remove the intake pipe from the manifold and fire it up without the filter or turbo on. Should it still run ok on tick over?

Trying to eliminate whatever i can without spendin more money!!

It should but the turbo won't be doing anything on tickover anyway so shouldn't make a lot of difference (unless there's a blockage there). Try it, but the symptoms might be the sign of something more sinister (hgf?) - does the coolant water look clean?

I'd go with wot oddie says, sounds like breathing problems. Cut the system as close to the throttle body as possible and run it up!

Possibly try running it for a few mins on tickover with the airbox disconnected (but make sure nothing goes in and it int dusty!) and see if it's better - have you gorra snozzle on it?

ok will do!

I had a look at the water to check it wasnt loosing any and it looked ok. Also checked the oil and it hasnt lost any and still looks very clean, but i did only put it in about 3-4 weeks ago.

i got a snorkel on it. Its not a landrover one its a peice of stainless flexi pipe runing direct to the airbox with a propper mushroom on the top. There is no way it can collapse and i wouldnt think any **** has gone down it with the mushroom on the top.

Will try it without the filter on tomorrow. Nice 1 for the help!

being pedantic? Hell be lookin all over for his throttle body/venturi.

I helped me mate sort his 1976 MGB GT carbs the other day. Twin SU's, we didn really do much but adjust the tickover and clean them up a bit though.

Runs better though.
