200tdi LED upgrade

Does anyone have a reliable cost effective LED solution for indicators sides etc?

I was told it is best to use the sealed units as they are more cost effective and are a far better way of doing it then just getting the LED blubs

As above, the units are miles better than just changing the bulbs - fully waterproof. I used the Wipac ones, bought from Paddocks.

Make sure you get the proper relay to suit, or the indicators won't work properly.

wipacs here - i used some autosparks 300tdi - bullet connection adaptors quite easily as cutting up a 100 odd quid lamp set seemed mad.

how ever they seem worth the dosh without a doubt - so bright when you follow it compared to standards. no doubt about if your braking or not !

any bulb based solution for indicators will require a resistor inline or it will think the bulb has blown and flash fast.

Indeed. I tried LED bulbs just a waste, not brighter than standard. Wipac sealed units are excellent.

Yup, I got my Land Rover a set of LED units from Bolt on Bits for Christmas 2013. they're all self contained units with completely flat backs, so you could in theory mount them anywhere. They also do a suitable flasher control unit that plugs in directly to where the old one goes, so no messing about with resistors.

Yes, bought a set of Nolden's this time last year (just before the price dropped).
I did a lot of research and they were generally regarded as being the best (indeed, they are what LR now offer as a Defender option) and while the 3-year warranty doesn't match the lifetime one with Speaker's, by all accounts the Speaker ones need the warranty as faults (inc corrosion & condensation) are not uncommon.

Performance is pretty good but I have to say that my headlights were already well sorted (decent lamp-units, Osram Nightbreaker 55/60W bulbs and an uprated wiring loom) so it wasn't as noticeable as perhaps someone who is running standard wiring or a set of old sealed-beams.
If you fancy a set (like I did) then go for it but be aware that there are lots of simple (and very cost effective) things you can do to improve headlight performance first. I think the Nolden's are now about £600 / pair.

Bought a set of RDX for my 96 D90 300, just removed old ones and plugged new in, no faffing around cutting connectors off. About £108 if I remember correctly

Im also running LED headlights now. Very impressed with them.

Great. I've got brighter than standard bulbs in mine at the moment, and I know people here recommend running fatter cables direct from the fuse box and using the existing lighting circuit merely to flick relays on and off, so I might try that. Or I might buy LEDs.

Bought a set of RDX LEDs (4x indicators, 2x sides, 2x rear / brake) from Bolt On Bits at the Billing Show.
Direct replacement with standard connectors in the box, that just snap on to the new lamps.
To fit all 8 lamps took about 45 minutes and they are also supplied with an 'adjustable' relay that replaces the original unit in the fusebox.
Dead easy, and about £110 ish from memory.....only thing not supplied are replacements for the flashers above the front wheel arch.

As for full LED headlights, too scared to pay out for these at present......has anyone fitted HIDs as replacement headlight bulbs

The problem with HIDs are they are illegal for use in a vehicle which wasnt set up for them.

Theres all kind of regs about it needing to be self levelling, with washer jets etc.

Lots of threads have already discussed them if you have a looksee. I have used HID's in cars before, and in the defender, but because you cause so much glare to other road users you end up getting flashed all the time and so you cant see...

Fit better bulbs, make sure you wiring is all good to your bulbs (mine was shagged!) and the reflectors are in good nick.

Or buy LED headlights

I just got a set of WiPac da1191 clear led stop/tail - side and indiocator led replacem,ents. Did you have to drill extra holes to fit them. I have a 200TDI so will have to change the connectors to start but also looks like I might have to do some drilling as well.

yes i did .

some 2mm holes for the self tappers to go through. job done.

as for changing the connectors - you can get plug in and play units to adapt from the old style bullets to the ones you need on the lights without chopping anything. autosparks.
