200tdi jerking at high revs

I'm having problems with my disco 200 tdi engine in my 90. It runs fine at low revs but when I accelerate for more than a few seconds it almost cuts out and then restarts again after a second or so. I fitted a new lift pump and fuel filter but it still does it. It did it about a month ago on a motorway journey but it seemed to sort itself out. It runs fine at low revs and when it jerks it feels like a lack of fuel delivery for a second.

Any ideas anyone? I need to get to the bottom of it as it's my daily driver

Sounds like you have a small air leak somewhere between the fuel tank and the mechanical fuel pump.

Or a blocked pick pipe in the tank, pipes leaving the top of the tank are a favourite leak point
