just wondering should my 1993 defender have intermittent wipe the wiper switch goes 1 click down but nothing happens and from off 2 clicks up first normal speed second fast.

Not certain what year it was introduced but unless the down position is sprung loaded then either someone has just fitted the wrong stalk or the intermittent isn't working.
I retro-fitted intermittent onto my 1986 ex-MOD 90, just a case of swopping the stalk, fitting the harness (available from Autosparks) and the relay.

Yours should have intermittent wipe, unit may be kaput.

I had the same problem on my 1990 Defender. It was some time ago I fixed it; It was a piece of plastic on the wiper motto that had broke under the dash. I was able to buy the part and replace it. It has worked fine for the last five years or so. I'm sure if you look at the motor you will figure it out. If I remember correctly it was about a 30 minute job.

No the actual intermittent unit,a relay like box behind the dash.If you want a programable one then a VW one will fit straight in.

It's behind the fuse holder actually, next to the flasher unit.

Fitted a vw99 relay today £9 off fleabay works a treat I now have intermittent wipe.

Maybe the stalk?
I have the same issue with mine and I assumed it to be the motor. After a new TD5 bulkhead with another motor it still does not work. I just assumed mine is the stalk that's not working.

Have a look on fleabay mate was quite a few second hand ones on when I got mine took about 5 mins to change and worked straight away.
