Couldn't tell you, there's an exploded diagram on the web, the stat is in the "out" pipe outlet on the housing, the bottom cooler pipe iirc

Need to look into that, would warm up a lot quicker, I mostly do 5 mile trips and it just gets nice and toasty when I arrive:rolleyes::)

Get one of those digital infra red temp readers, point where you want and find out whats hot and whats not.

Got one, engines warm and stat opens when it should, just don't get warm very quick, must drive it harder but 30 speed limits for first four of the five miles so its only ticking over and not doing any work:)

Having to poodle along at under 30 may be much of the problem, more so if you are on the flat[I have a steep hill to leave home that gets my 200 working straight away] As said by others the 200 is a cool running with everything in good order and many think that helps them last but it's not much fun in a cold winter. As said a rad muff does not seem to help[too much space around the back for air to reach the rad] I have for some years run in the winter with a piece of cardboard in plastic tied tight against the lower half of the rad, just remember to remove when it warms up.

Hi every one, I have been having a similar problem for months now.

Mine overheated and led to the head gasket going, thats now been replaced along with the water pump, cam belt (well the engine was in bits) a new thermostat and new heater matrix.

My guage reads just outside the red after about and hour and never moved, I wasnt getting any heat into the cab, I should point out she is a 1989 110 CSW with a 200TDI engine.

I checked around the matrix housing and it was leaking from everywhere, so iv pluged as many holes as I can find with foam and that made a slight differance in I can feel warm air now on the passenger side of the cab but not on the drivers side.

I checked for air locks because of the guage and didnt find any, so I fitted an new earth cable from the cam belt casing to the front wing, I changed the tempreture guage sender at the same time.

My guage now takes forever to move up and when it does its reallyslow. The guage gets up to just outside the red in normal trafffic around town at 30mph, if I switch my electric fan on it made no differance to the guage.

I then had to pop down the M4 and while travelling at 60 i noticed the guage drop a little so I switched the fan on to see what would happen. Well to my surprise it dropped to half way then to off (cold), switch the fan off and it took a while before going back to half way.

This led me to think the guage had an electrical fault so I double checked every connection. Soemthing worked as now my guage takes forever to move and when it does it goes to just below red for normal drivning, half way for motorway and either half way or off for the fan being on.

So where am I now, well the guage seems to lie but with the winter now here it doesnt worry me to much, by the summer I will need to have fixed it as I wont know if the engine is hot or not.

More importantly now is the heating matrix. My two speed fan seems to slow when on setting one to push much air through the matrix and all the way to the cab, where as the 2nd speed seems to fast and although air gets to me in the drivers seat its cooled or just cold so pointless having the heating switched on.

I have even fitted a heated windscreen as the demisters are usless.

Its a long job but I think I will have to remove all the dash board to see the bulk head, unless any one has a better idea?
