Right. I've done a search but nothing seems to fit the problem that's suddenly manifested itself. I noticed y'day that my heater fan had stopped working. I checked the fuse and switch itself and all is OK. Today I had to take a long drive across N Wales &, low & behold, as soon as the revs are up and I'm cruising at 60 the heater starts blowing out hot air. As soon as I stop and the engine is idle it stops!

I've taken the switch out the binnacle and cleaned all the contacts and done the same to the wring connectors going into the fan motor. The fan spins freely when I stick my hand down the wing air intake so that's not the problem.


Is this likely to be a motor resistor problem or something else? Most threads I've read seem to have a problem where the fan runs at one speed only & don't mention fact that it only works at high engine revs.

Could it just be air forced through the vents by high speed and not that the fan starts ?

I recently had to replace the fan as it had seized, but you could feel air coming out the vents when you drove.
 
u sure the fan is actually working? sounds as if its either knackered or on its way out and ur only getting good airflow when ur driving faster.

do you really mean rev related or is it that u get air coming through at faster speeds?
 
I think the fan is working as the air intake is on the top of the wing so air can't be rammed through at high speeds. Problems s with a 110 its so noisy at anything above 30 mph you can't hear the fan! I'm in Sweden on business at moment so no time to look. An not seized as turns easily by hand

Unplug the fan supply at the side of the heater box ! Run a wire to the live from your battery and a wire to earth ! Fan should run ,if not its had it ! Heat will blow out when you drive along ! A small amount of air is forced thru heater via the wing top vent !! I have seen a few cases of the neutral / earth feed being lost ! A wire to a reliable earth cures this problem usualy!!
 
OK. I've connected heater fan directly to battery & it works a treat. I've traced problem to the live side of the fuse which is a orange / white cable. There is no live! This explains a recent radio problem as there is a thinner orange / white that jumps across from heater fuse to radio fuse. I suddenly lost the radio live and we ended up taking a live from the cigarette lighter.

I'm now lost as to where to look next as according to Haynes wiring diagram this orange / white changes to a white / black and ends up at the warning light panel in the dash binnacle.

Any advice on where to start next would be appreciated.

Ign feed to fan comes from ign switch on earlier 90. And check earthing and switch

Last time the fan worked I still had two speeds. Suspect its going to be dashboard out job.
 
Sorted!
At some point in its life someone had broken off the terminal from the live feed of the ignition switch and soldered a short lead wit ha spade connector. The soldered connection had come adrift. 2 minute job and I now have a fully working fan and a live to the radio.
