Had a rather large bang this morning, clutch shot to the floor, I now have no resistance on the normal travel of the clutch until it's nearly on the floor it just about disengages and is still drive able, just!
It has a hd fork on it, is that a normal symptom of a hd fork giving out?
I did fit a new clutch about 18 months ago but as the fork was ok I left it as it was.
 
The clutch fork in there had no wear and looked brand new last February (I'm a ford senior tech, so know when it's worn out!), it is still drive able currently although it has a very long pedal.
I'd best order a fork then, I'll take it to work and do it on the two poster, when the clutch went I had no choice but to do it on the floor, I won't be doing that again in a hurry!

btw, a hd one usually just has a bit of plate welded on the back.
 
Yup that is what's in there was wondering if that was the reason I still have a clutch, as the pivot is probably now acting on the plate rather than the cup where it should be.

maybe, but the plate is directly on the pivot.. so it would only move the rod a few mm.. dunno.. best to get it split and look.. let us know the result :)
 
You have a clearance issue, which could be the bearing collapsed judging by the bang, so not enough pressure to fully disengage the cover. You still have drive, so probably not cover/plate related, unless one or more of the damper springs have gone in the drive plate.
May also be simple, slave cylinder bracket broken or bolts come loose for instance, allowing the cylinder to move backwards when operating clutch. If the plate is welded on the fork properly it shouldn't fail, could be the weld has failed, plate popped off as fork wore through.
 
My hd fork that had a thick plate welded on, burst through, causing the same problem, I managed to drive it with a lot of crunching, no first or reverse unless engine switched off then on again, rev matching helped a bit too
