Hi , my 200TDi goes clonk , clonk ,clonk ,on full lock ( or just approaching full lock ) it sounds really nasty and people look around to see ! but goes when I start to straighten up . I reckon its the CV joints but I would like some opinions on what it could be . Also when on gravel I can hear a wheel sort of locking up slightly as it its skidding until I straighten up .If it is a CV joint then what causes this ? as I like to know whats gone wrong with the component .
Another annoying thing I'd like to sort out is a cloud of smoke on start up , the Disco runs really well with plenty of pull in all gears up steep inclines as well , it starts first time every time with no noticable loss of water or oil over thousands of miles , if it wasnt for the cloud of smoke I'd say the engine was perfect . It has covered 183,000 miles , I was thinking it could be just hardened rubber valve stem seals with oil passing down into the combustion chamber during rest , any ideas ? thank you .
