200tdi bellhousing studs?

Bought a 90 that had a new chassis fitted and disco1 engine fitted recently.
After 3 or 4 months thought the clutch was going, slave cylinder or something, but then quickly it wouldnt even mesh into gear?? Underneath there was a nut were it was parked up.. had a look and out of the 7 studs holding the bellhousing up there was only one stud in with a very loose nut on and the bellhousing was about 1/2" apart! Muppets! Only one nut on exhaust onto the manifold (that explains the fumes i saw the other day) only one bolt on the clutch slave! and thats just what i checked.

There are no studs in the bellhousing at all (worried they'd sheared off) but the holes on the engine side are a few ml narrower than the ones on the bellhousing side.. are the studs narrower at one side, or have they not bothered to do the conversion properly?
 
studs should be m10 the bell housing hole will be fractionally larger as the thread is smaller than the shank, it sounds like they didnt fit studs but used bolts and didnt tighten them up
 
Ah right, in that case i'll get 6 studs ordered from craddocks. I'll have a look on that thread as i heard you have to drill and tap one side to make a disco engine fit? Infact i think i'll have a good look and see what has and hasnt been done!
 
I may be wrong but dont think you need to drill anything as the holes are there, they just need tapping
 
Thanks for all the info. can only find them on craddocks. just while i'm on, took the water pump off (totally knackered) an had to weld some oversized nuts on to get the bolts out.. anyone know were you can get the 3 short 2 medium, 2 long bolts from?
 
Measure them and get ebaying
All bolts/set screws are measured under the head ie under the bolt head to the end of the bolt, sounds simple but many people dont know that.
 
Aye the world of DIY landrover fixing is full of muppets :)

ok, a little confused. bought the 10mm studs for the bell housing from craddocks (only took 21/2 weeks to send 7 bolts, had to ring them in the end) went to fit this morning, wont screw in. Got torch and had look inside holes, all the holes in the flywheel housing are clean, untapped 8mm holes? Should have checked first time instead of just seeing if they were empty! Holes on gearbox side are a very loose 10mm and the bottom hole is oval were it must have been loose at some point in its life and can nearly fit a 12mm bolt in??
There is one 10mm stud one up from the bottom hole with a nut on holding the entire bellhousing together along with the 2 top bolts.
I'll take it i need to tap the holes... can this be done without taking the clutch apart as i need the bloody thing over lambing time in 2 weeks. TIA

Just a thought... could the muppets who put the thing together have put the plate on wrong? Turned it so that the wrong holes line up to the bell housing? No idea. All the holes do line up, but just not threaded engine side.

If the gear box is out wrap some rags around clutch to stop any cuttings from tap falling inside the clutch.
If gearbox still in place should be ok to tap .
 
Will be fine to tap either way, if box out just cover the clutch with some rag.
Whole lot should be M10 studding, best nuts are the M10 type with a 15mm spanner size head , makes life a lot easier than the std 17mm spanner size head.
