That is a Ninety, although I think there are Defender 90 on H plate as well. That is badged as a 90, so it would have originally had 2.5TD. Many have been re-engined. Make sure you physically examine what is under the bonnet before parting with cash.

This includes checking the numbers against the paperwork and any receipts for work done ...

Any chassis repairs to ID critical areas must also be given a good look at ...

Look it up if you want to know.

Plenty of pics of both on the forum or elsewhere.

They probably do have less power than a 2.5 petrol.

From memory petrol are about 85bhp
Tdi all variations between 107 and 122 bhp
19J 100bhp on a good day

That's interesting about the Tdis, didn't know it would be as much as that.

In my book it says 85 bhp for a 19j, and I would have thought that is about right.

200 also has air intake on the left wing, didnt go to right wing until 300 came out

Fair point as well.

200Tdi there is only two flavours. Defender with the different intake manifold and 107bhp and the Disco fitment 111bhp.

300Tdi both Disco and Defender the same with 111bhp. The automatic 300Tdi Disco has an electronic controlled injection pump and 122bhp. Probably for emissions reasons and to try and offset the poor performance of having an automatic attached to a Tdi.

With the TDI, being honest I would be very surprised if the real life figures ever matched the makers figures, add on a couple of hundred thousand miles?
I have always said good engines but underpowered even when tweaked, 300 much the same.

To be correct the 300 Disco auto from 1996 onwards had the EDC 122 bhp motor, previous ones were good old fashioned sloooow, not that the EDC was much better, chipped up they are pretty good.

Depends on use, farm work and local mileage they are fine, as is my TD.
Open road not so great, but that isn't an issue we have to contend with in these parts!

Underpowered? Unlikely, car makers for many years generally have to adhere to strict standards. This means, barring a few exceptions, they are usually not too far out.

Tdi's are good stout engines and easy to tweak at home. Sure they'll never be rocket ships, but will run good enough. My uncle has a nicely tweaked 300Tdi by Jeremy J Fearn. Going round about to round about in Milton Keynes it was quick enough to stop a diesel Focus Mk2 getting past, despite the fact they were really trying for maybe 6 or 7 round about consecutively.

I had a J Fearn tweaked 97 300 auto hence my comment about the chipped autos flying, did 50k in it, throttle was still like an on/off switch!

It's a 200tdi I think :)

It's only had 1 owner from new, has apparently only done 65k miles, interior is immaculate and chassis is showing normal signs of rust but does appear to be solid :)

That sounds like a good find. Not too many of those around in decent condition now.
