200tdi/2.5 Turbo Diesel 19J

Hi all,

I have been out of touch with landy's for a couple of year since I sold my petrol. I am looking to buy another and have seen one which is a 1992, 90 DEFENDER TURBO DIES, 2495cc. Would that be a 200tdi or could it be a 2.5TD 19J? When looking through sites etc the year of production on the 19J seems to give slightly conflicting years. I don't have a pic of the engine bay available at the mo.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

200 Tdi Defender. Unless its been re-engined.

No, I'm asking as I have just been looking at a 90 for sale thats un clear on the engine spec and just says 2.5 diesel. Hear is a photo .....

Yes have done im pretty sure itll have the defender 200tdi in it as its 90s onwords unless its been changed.

That is a Ninety, although I think there are Defender 90 on H plate as well. That is badged as a 90, so it would have originally had 2.5TD. Many have been re-engined. Make sure you physically examine what is under the bonnet before parting with cash.

Only if its been changed. Air intake right for a TD.

Yeah am i right in thinking 200tdi defender engines turbo mounted top right and disco turbos jamed down the bottom and the 19j turbo hasnt got an intercooler?

19J is completely different, indirect injection, different head, no ladder frame, no intercooler.

It's not that one, it's a blue hard top

my dad said it was a 200tdi, it just felt like it had less power than my old 2.5 4cyl petrol, I'll have a closer look this week, wish I'd taken a pic of the engine bay now

Look it up if you want to know.

Plenty of pics of both on the forum or elsewhere.

They probably do have less power than a 2.5 petrol.

look at the pics, you will know if you have seen it once there is little similarity. I will look out a pic of my 2.5 in a minute.
