I've done a search for this and can't find anyone else reporting this problem which completely surprises me......

I have a 57 plate 90 Puma.

I first experienced diesel leaking back at the beginning of last year (2013).
It was sorted by my local independent LR mechanic who told me the breather tubes had perished which he found surprising as they should be 'diesel-proof'.

Late last year, i noticed a small leak again. Back to the garage as i could see the large tube above the rear tyre on the drivers side was split...
It was replaced with a genuine LR part.

Last night i noticed a puddle when parking up in my usual spot. Rechecking the back i had a constant drip, by far the worst leak so far.

I took it to the mechanic tonight and he looked at the tube above the rear tyre (i hadn't as i figured it was new and would be fine.....) It was completely split. There was diesel all over the bodywork, mudflap, wheel arch extensions... everything in that area.

The mechanic has said he's not happy to use genuine parts again for the job because clearly they are not up to it.

Questions:
1) Has anyone else seen this??? Has it been reported by anyone else? It can't just be me!

2) What shall we replace the tubing with ? Mechanic thought braided (water) hosepipe would possibly be a better idea, but i am wondering about how that would interact with diesel.....

I'd go to your local automotive shop with a piece of the old hose and ask for some diesel fuel hose to the same dimensions.

I wouldnt use air hose it will fail sooner rather than later.
Gates hose is quailty stuff, on ebay or your local motor factors
