Hello All,

After MOT failure I have changed front anti roll bar drop arms and the brake pipes and rear flexis, car been jacked up on each corner to access the various bits to fix. I now have a suspension fault, the car was doing odd things like rising into extended mode on it own and refusing to drop back down again. The problem according to the diagnostic is the Front Left Height Sensor Mechanism C1A72-1C. I have popped the link off the sensor and rotated it up and down and feels a bit gritty. When I park the car up the suspension on the three corners that don't show a fault drop down but the front left stays where it should. After starting it up everything goes back level and it looks OK. After starting and allowing it to level I get the following readings:

Front Left Corner Height Sensor Voltage 0.4V
Front Left Corner Height Sensor -14mm
Front Right Corner Height Sensor Voltage 3.35V
Front Right Corner Height Sensor -16mm
Rear Left Corner Height Sensor Voltage 2.47V
Rear left Corner Height Sensor 24mm
Rear Right Corner Height Sensor Voltage 1.73V
Rear Right Corner Height Sensor -23mm

Front left corner voltage is very low compared to the others, if I clear the fault it pops back up straight back up so it is a permanent failure

On the front left corner I had bother getting the plastic trim off in the centre to reach the brake pipe connector, this covers the wiring for that sensor, the wires seemed to go over the plastic not under it which made removal quite hard and may of caused hidden wire damage, it is all wrapped in insulation tape.

Question I have is there a way to check the wiring at the sensor plug to ensure the wiring is good before I replace the sensor or is it more likely the sensor has over extended when I jacked it up and I should just replace . Finally is there a recommended manufacturer that isn't going to cause an issue or should I just go LR to save any future trouble.

Thanks in advance for the advice

Have you got the arm the right way round

I only unclipped the black rod from the white arm so I could rotate the sensor, my thinking being it might of gone somewhere it doesn't normally go and picked up dirt and rotating it up and down might clean it. This was after the fault started which was after jacking it up, before I started work on the brakes all worked as expected.

Good to know if I have to swap it, thanks.

I found the relavance section on RAVE so plug has 3 wires 5v live from ECU, Ground and the sense wire. So figure I can pull the plug and check the feed to see if it is wiring, I have checked the wire visually and it looks ok.

Problem I have is getting the plug off the sensor, is there a trick to get it off, seems stuck fast and as it is plastic and old don't want to break it.

Yup, I have managed, 5 volts at the plug so my guess is the sensor. If I rotate the sensor arm the voltage goes from 0 round the back to 0.6 at the top and 0.4 when normal ride height.

Does sensor seem like the problem?

I see there are several part numbers for arms on the L322 and I think mine was right on the 05/06 border. Does anyone know the part number for front passenger side?

It certainly sounds like a sensor especially as you said it felt gritty when you rotated it.

Just found the thread, makes interesting reading. I use a local guy who I think many moons ago was a LR mechanic and now has a shop selling LR parts only. Very helpful, very knowledgeable and has only let me down once in 15 years of doing business with him from when I owned my first Discovery (he crimped a brakeline fitting the wrong way on a pipe he made me before I figured out I could do it myself).

I will update with the part number once I pick it up Wednesday plus if it works. As always I gave him my reg and he quoted parts both LR original and OEM.

Ignore the year and go solely by the VIN. :) Fingers crossed for you that you are the RQH100030 both sides.

I collected the part this morning, I was on a double yellow so picked up the part quick look and out the door.

Part supplied is LR020626 which I looked up on other sellers sites and it states front left sensor L322 02 - 2012.

The sensor itself looks different as does the bracket. I was hoping not to have to replace the bracket as the studs that hold it on look rusted away and would be a challenge to change. The connecting rod looks the same, new sensor seems less bulky and the arm is black, on the car it is white but the car has a LR part on this is OEM.

Anyone know if this part is correct ? Before I go and try to change it.

There was a reason for the colours, cant remember exactly but think to do with headlight type.
Do the connectors look the same.
Personally wouldn't risk digging in unless you are certain sound like its wrong to me (first impression).

The plug is the same and has three pins only at 1,4 and 5 which matches RAVE. The part number goldrover gave (RQH100030) is a rear, this is front. I'm going to take a proper look at the car and compare the two and speak to the supplier.

Found some more, sounds like it maybe the right 1.
This is from a manual 2007-2010, but mentions 2006.

Just had a quick look and the right is black. I guess OEM may not follow this. I am off up the shed to check out the new one Vs the old one. Thanks Marjon

The size and everything all look good fitted it but the car is not recieving a signal from the sensor so it isn't seeing it and I still have the fault. Swapped old sensor back in and I am not seeing the small voltage that was there before. I disconnected the rod to the suspension arm and rotated it round and still no voltage. I am wondering if the sense wire has become damaged somewhere when removed and replaced the brake pipe.

Anyone know how do you get to the ECU for the suspension so I can try to test the sense wire continuety?
