Hello, I am new to the forum, I have done a search but cannot seem to find an answer so a bit of help would be much appriciated!!

I have a 2006 TD4 Automatic Freelander with an intermittant indicator fault. All of a sudden, when indicating left or right, the indicator will not flash or make the "clicking" noise. On occasions it will start to work then stop when the indicator is still applied. As quick as it faults it begins to behave normally again

I have a towbar fitted and is fitted with the upgraded flasher unit (Hella)

What I have done so far.

  • Bought a new flasher unit (lucas). When this is fitted and ignition on there is a constant quick clicking noise made from the flasher unit with the trailer icon on the dash flashing. When the indicators are applied they act as normal with the clicking sound slowed down to normal
  • Checked earths seem fine
  • Checked bulbs all work
  • Disconnected the tow bar electrics - make no difference!

Any ideas

it's possibly a faulty switch-try wiggling the stork gently and see if it has any effect

I have wiggled the stork but its makes no difference! The contacts on the indicator stalk look greasy - is this right!!

Problem solved. I was supplied with a Lucas flasher unit (£15) from a landrover specialist which althought was the correct serial number, Lucas also supply a specific Landrover unit one with the same serial number (£35) The correct landrover flasher unit is a bit bigger and works!!!!!

Madness!!!

Lucas how about two different serial numbers!!!!
