Sport 2005 stolen recovered

Hi everyone I have been offered a 2005 sport 2,7 diesel which was stolen and recovered but was laying about for a time while the legalities were sorted, the car runs an drives but with the ignition light on the battery is dead would that cause the light on or would a good battery sort it thanks Chris

Ignition light on with the engine running could mean the alternator is toast, but being a JLR product it may not be that simple. These cars are full of ECU's and need a top notch battery, so the first step would be to fit a fully charged battery. If the light stays on with the engine running, check the voltage at the battery with the engine at 2K rpm, should be at least 14.7 volts.
No volts could indicate a fault in the D+ line to the dash battery lamp needed to start the alternator charging, or a duff alternator.

Try it before you buy it? Also get diagnostics on it. Otherwise it's a guessing game.
