L322 2004 TD6 Vogue Starter Relay

Hi All,

Does the 2004 L322 TD6 have a starter relay to energise the starter solenoid on the starter motor itself? I've looked through RAVE and found references to Engine bay relay box (P125a) and the starter relay (RL16) but where is the starter relay? I can't find one.

Starting
ECM Relay
The ECM relay coil (C1895) is provided a constant battery feed from the 100A fuse located
in the fuse holder (C1875) on an R wire. The earth path for the relay coil (C1895) is
controlled by the ECM (C0603) on an N wire. If the ECM has received a valid 'remobilisation'
signal from the immobilisation ECU, it will energise the ECM relay. The energised ECM relay
(C1895) provides a feed to fuse 2 of the engine compartment fuse box (C0570) on an RW
wire. Fuse 2 (C0570) is connected to the glow plug timer (C0190) by an R then RW wire.
 
Can't find anything for a TD6 but have this for a LHD V8
Found this for the TD6, still not sure if it's integral to the starter motor though :confused:

Is a solenoid classed as a relay in this instance? they both essentially do the same thing in that they pull or push something.
LR logic holds no bounds :D
 
Hi All,

Thanks for the information. A solenoid is a type of relay that handles current of 60A upwards and needs several amps to energise. A relay is used to switch a few mA upto a few 10's of amps, so the ecm would have the current capability to energise a small(ish) relay which would, in turn, would be able to energise a high current solenoid to spin the starter motor.

I know the starter motor solenoid is fitted to the top of the starter motor. My problem is this. Where is the starter relay that energises the solenoid? I can't find it anywhere.

It always looks like JLR took a bucket full of relays, threw them into the car and wired them up wherever they landed:rolleyes:
