Morning all. The wifes TD5 started leaking diesel on Sun. Ive checked the pipe from the cap to the tank and its ok. There is fuel around the sub frame and tank area. Any common faults to look for please as she is worried? Thanks in advance.

Pourus fuel filter housing or a damaged o seal in pipe that sprays under pressure. Ethanol in fuel eats rubber seals on older veichles

Mine did the same. turned out to be a fairly common fault, the four plastic fuel pipes that run from the pump to the filter rub on the chassis and start leaking.
Its a fairly simple fix but you (should) drop the tank to do it.

there was an official recall but the replacement pipes still leak, and if your unlucky, you may find, like I did that a JLR dealer had "repaired" one of the pipes with a pipe clamp and a piece of rubber!
Edit here is a link to the recall notice

Would I be able to contact JLR and ask if this has still to be done???

Never had to check myself, but nothing to loose by calling a dealer, have your VIN number handy.
Have to say, mine had def had the pipes changed under the recall, the pipes are date coded and were dated 2006 BUT they had also started leaking, I dont think there was a second recall to fix the first!

Also see my post on the orange "bladder valve" in the fuel housing that prevents leak back to the tank. You will not find it on any L.R manuals and it is not a Land Rover part. I bet your pipes have been changed as part of a recall already, most were due to H+S concerns. Take the fuel filter housing to bits, see if the orange valve is deformed / open, if it is thats your problem and you need to spend £120 on a new filter housing. Its easier than dropping a tank, takes 5 minutes with a 3/4 spanner. Take all brass flanges to the housing off the orange bit is on the return side ( back left). Easy to do... your Mrs could do it, thats where I would start as if you cannot see diesel leaks chance is pipes are not leaking?? It cured mine despite so called dealers saying pump, injector seals, pipes and all unsundry bollocks they come up with.

Does it leak mainly when the tank is full? If so check the fuel filler breather pipe which has a habit of splitting where it fits on top of the tank.

Forgot to add, with the ignition on, i.e. you can hear the fuel pump is running, get a torch and carefully look around the whole area of the tank/filter etc.
My leak was very obvious, fuel was dripping very nicely from the bottom of the tank, after running down from the leaking pipe which was on top!

My mate had a look this morning and he said it is 100% the 4x pipes have rubbed through. Nightmare. Oh well at least its identified the fault. Ill see if it was recalled by JLR if not ill see if they will fix it properly instead of a pipe clamp like they did for the other chap above. Thank you all for your comments & advice.

I dont think mine was the only one with a bodge fix! Apparently the original maker of the pipes went bust so new ones were in short supply at the time, "repairs" were probably common.
Be interesting to hear what your dealer says.
The new pipes do chaff and therefore leak, its a safety issue so there shouldn't be any time limit on it!
But Im sure this has been mulled over in other threads.
