2003 TD4 Starting Problem

Hi
Can some PLEASE help !!!!
My TD4 turns over but will not start, then try agian later it starts...
I have read most posts....rail diesal sensor (connection corrosion), crank sensor, leaking injector.....
So today i started to av a look at Rail Pressure Sensor......on all the post i have read it does not say where the corrosion is, sensor end or other the goes deep into the engine somewhere!!!!
Also can someone tell me the deep socket size i would need to buy to remove this sensor..
Plus does ayone knoew the BOSCH part number as LandRover only have their own numbers and Bosch UK was about as much help as a chocolate tea spoon !!!!

the electrical connector pins 'n sockets ..
plug .. male / female connection .. that's where the corrosion occurs ..
and / or in the wiring itself ..

clean the connectors ..
smear them with 'contralube' ..
'n add some to where the wires run into the plug ..
that'll stop any water running down the wires getting into the plug in the first place ..

or other the goes deep into the engine somewhere!!!!

the other end does not end up deep inside the engine ..
the sensor is 2 or so inches long ..

Where does the Fuel sensor wires go....................when i put in ECU the info i get is the one by the fuse box......The one where the wires seem to lead seems difficult to access?
Also do you know the deep sockett size i will need for the Fuel sensor (no 22 or 24 at a guess) many many thanks Paul

???? .. .. .. regarding the fuel rail sensor :
i was on about the plug/socket on the sensor itself i.e. regarding corrosion
the other end is in the engine management box / engine bay fuse box ..
no need to worry about the engine management box wiring ..
it doesn't normaly have a water ingress problem ..
.. rain water has a tendency to get on the engine top for some reason ..
( after a downpour .. when it's been parked up ..
( open the hood .. you Might see a puddle of water around the oil filler cap

sorry .. i've no idea offhand .. not had to remove the sensor yet ..

The wires for the Fuel rail sensor seem go downwards into a viod in the engine (acording to my chubby litlle fingers!!) the to a box 4"x2" (behind the starter motor) it is very difficult to see....do you know what the box is called so i can look it up?
If the water was going to settle and cause corrosion i think this would be the place!!...... Once again thanks for your help Paul

oops .. do they ? .. .. mmmmmmmmm ..
will have to check it out .. .. only wrote what i did above .. from memory via installing the synergy 2a box ..

..do you know what the box is called so i can look it up?

nope .. not a clue ..
will have to 'ave a look next time i've the hood up .. fairly soon once it stops raining
( got to unload some things out of the boot a.s.a.p. )

if i've an answer to that (?) .. i'll post it ..

makes sense ..

i've a 2006 td4 .. ( bought it this feb with 37k miles on the clock )
when i had the engine cover off .. i inspected all the electrical connectors i could reach ..
all were very clean .. .. except the plug on the fuel-rail sensor ..
the pins had some yellow/green corrosion on them ..

have taken a look .. used torch and mirror ..
even so .. hard to see what bit of wiring harness goes where
see what you mean as to the wiring from the fuel rail sensor ..
could not see exactly where it terminates ..
saw one sensor .. that Might be the crankshaft sensor
saw another .. that looks as if it Might be the hp fuel regulator on the hp fuel pump
saw some wiring going to the starter motor ..
did not spot a 4"x2" box .. i suspect i'd need to remove air-intake assembly to view it ..

looking at that general area .. i wouldn't be too concerned about any rain water getting down that far ..
although one poster could not start their td4 .. starter motor seemed to be dead ..
turned out to be a corroded contact .. on one of the wires connected to the starter ..
the single wire with a spade connector ... ( i think that was the one )
as a precaution .. i sprayed some wd40 over the lot .. .. 'n crossed fingers ..
