2003 freelander td4 imobiliser

after much looking into by my local garage they have had a full test carried out on my car and it seems that the imobliser in the ecu needs to be reprogramed by that i meen get a new one or have my reprogramed to disable it been told 120 to 200 pounds for this i know i will have to tell my insurance company but hey ho i just want my landy bk , without any problems , my question is , is this right in what they are saying to me can my imobiliser be disabled from the ecu ?

Need more info really. How did all this start? Fob/receiver/ imob ECU and engine management ECU are all linked. You probably need dealer or good LR independent.
