2003 4.4 HSE alarm woes

Apologies if this has been asked before, I did do a search but couldn't fix my issue.

I just bought a 2003 4.4 HSE and both keys are knackered, the button that you press to lock the car is caved in and simply doesn't work. Everything seems to be ok with the car except I can't lock it with the remote button.

I tried locking it with the key, which works fine, the central locking operates, but when I try and open it manually with the key only the drivers side door unlocks and then when I actually open the door the alarm goes off. The alarm stays on for about 25 seconds or so but the car will start and drive and then the alarm goes off.

I can live with no remote locking, I'm happy to lock it manually, but is there a way to disable the alarm?

Its your drivers door switchpack that has failed. Not the most expensive thing to replace.
There is a keyfob repair service that can fix your key too.
Yes the alarm can be switched off with the appropriate diagnostic tool (Nanocom or similar). HTH. :)

You sure about that? It's not a P38 with a 4.4 motor.
 
Suggest you get the fobs sorted. Sure you can get just the case and do it yourself. But be careful "I think" that year may have had a loose little bit of what looks like plastic which can get lost its a vital bit. Might not be the case may have been a different car/model but something to look out for.

The door lock systems are similar to the P38 in that they have switches in the driver's door latch. 2 docs attached 1 is from a manual for 2002 1 is 2007.
They don't read the same but basically some sort of "switch".
Best take the door card off and do some checks to see what's what, and check for any corrosion in connectors to start.
Have heard that water in the driver's door window switch pack happens and causes problems.

Marion is right about the little it inside loose that and your intrubble and yes you can get a new case to put your bits in , normally if its locked with the remote you have to unlock with the remote or it will alarm, sort fobs and see what happens then.
 
Just tried my L322 with the key and locking it locks all doors, unlocking once does drivers door, twice does all doors.

Do you have the 1 door setting on your remote? I.E do you have to push the fob button twice to open all doors. M switched it to that and muggings here always has to knock on the window to be able to get in;) maybe she’s trying to tell me something :rolleyes:

Anyway if you turn once and open driver door I bet the alarm don’t go off;).

Remote opens all doors with one press. Didn't try the alarm bit, I'll do that tomorrow at a more reasonable hour. :D
 
Tried Timpsons and another specialist key place but both said the internals are completely knackered on both keys and they can't be repaired, so my only option is a genuine replacement pre-programmed by Landrover, at about £400.
I gather that there might be other ways to do it, but after phoning around it seems the general consensus is that if the internals are completely toast then it's either a lot of messing around to try and get something that might work, or just bite the bullet and get a proper genuine replacement.

Appreciate the replies, I'm going to get my keys repaired (one at a time in case it doesn't work) and then see if that helps.
Try mrsporty he has an ebay shop as in previous post Top man with key fobs. I personally recommend him. Very fast turn around and very good prices
 
The problem was that the key internals were totally knackered and beyond any sort of repair, so they couldn't put the old internals into a new fob/key.
The only option was a complete new key & fob, and as I said I was told that an OEM one can be supplied pre-programmed and it will work right out of the box, but they're not cheap, £400 is the cheapest quote I got for a genuine Landrover one.
