Should be straightforward but looks like the previous owner upgraded all the bulbs and nothing is standard.

I keep on getting the "left side light bulb failure". Each time I check it is functioning correctly. I feared a BECM fault, however the other day I jumped out to check (as the warning came up on start up and turning the lights on). The light was out but a thump turned it on. Loose connection, great.

On removal it looks like it is one of those Canbus ready bulbs. Searching the internet and there are various types, some stating they are 7/10 confident it won't trigger fault messages.

Can I just put standard side light bulbs in or is there a preferred Canbus ready make that doesn't upset the P38?

The connector tends to get a load of spray and rot. You can soak it in something to get all the verdigris off.

It depends on the type of LED you choose. You can get ones that simulate ordinary bulbs and therefore don't trigger the bulb failure warning. I have them fitted to all four indicators, sidelights and the reversing lights.

If you do nothing else, upgrade your reversing lights to LED, the difference is staggering!

I've got off-road reversing lights from Halfords. They trigger a bulb failure warning but they're a Godsend on a wet dark night out in the countryside.
