Hi everybody :welcome2: I need some advice.
Night ago I had unexpected visitor in my car :mad:, lost right side window, radio etc. Rainy night, next morning flat battery and wet seats and carpets.

After replacement of battery:

First of all I had messages on the dash that fuses 2, 10, 20, 22 are faulty, checked, replaced for new but messages still on for fuses 2, 10, 20 but all are ok. :confused: When I was checking fuses i felt burning smell close to BECM (maybe fuse 22 which was burnt, but smell was quite strong)

Second, both rear windows stopped working, no any response up or down, when operating up button on centre console for rear left window I hear ticking in BECM and I saw that left direction repeater flashing when I was pushing this button. :confused:

Third, not even one left direction indicator are working, no any message for fault or something, all bulbs ok and indication on dash ok.

Rest is ok, engine starting, all other lights, switches etc. also ok.

If anybody has idea what I can do with it?
 
Hi, this is bad news I am afraid by the sounds of things, it is likely that you have got damage to your BECM. the burning smell is more likely to be a MOSFET in the BECM than a fuse.

Your BECM may be repairable but you need to think that it may well need to be replaced.

If you are making an insurance claim, then buying a brand new BECM is potentially an option, but this might write the car off (non-financially viable repair). There is definitely a four figure price tag attached to this option.

If you are looking to get your BECM repaired, then there are a number of people on this forum that do that including myself, I think IrishRover and others.

The third option is to buy a second hand BECM with the matching part code to your existing unit and get it programmed to your car. Unfortunately this is again something that has to be done by a BECM specialist (myself, Irishrover, et al.) Don't plug any old BECM into your car this could cause you more problems.

I do have some second hand BECMs in stock, but would need to know what part number yours was to work out whether we have a suitable exchange unit.

or just rob the logic board out a scrapper, unless the lower board is screwed. all you need is an anti static earth strap from maplins and to find another bcem with same board
 
If you are happy taking the BECM apart, you could certainly give Fanatic's idea a go, but you will need to make sure that you get a compatible BECM, there are low line and high line units as well as variations as the unit was developed during production.

Certainly though a logic board swap is an option and this would maintain your programming, negating the need to get the BECM programmed back to your car.

Danger is of course, if you damage the logic board, it may become impossible to retrieve data from from the EEPROMs and then cause complicated issues coding keys, etc.

Not trying to scaremonger, if you are OK with electronics, go for it, if not, I would seriously suggest letting someone who is, do the work.

Obviously that is a power board swap not a logic board swap (no point in that whatsoever!), why do you only notice the obvious mistakes once the damn thing is posted! :)

I know the feeling, from experience it seems more that the power board fails.
I also agree with the last post, it's a personal choice.
I've yet to kill a cmos or other static sensitive device as I strip iton a tiled floor on a wooden board and am earthed out.
What you really really don't want to do is wear nylon clothing or walk across a carpet:D

BECM is this what I was afraid. The problem is, that i am not sure it is only BECM problem. Could it happen if I have some bad wiring in car (ex. doors or seats) and some water made short circuits on this wires, could it damage BECM or burn fuses only? Under right front seat when I looked there was quite dry (or quite is not enough).

Anyway I am sure that something is burnt in BECM, I can smell it.

I am afraid that when BECM will be repaired (or new reprogrammed) I will install it and it will happen again.

I found electronic guy who want to check what is wrong, he is not experienced with range rovers unfortunatelly, but has opinions from others (in my place) that is good in job what he is doing.

Should I check something with Faultmate (if it helps) before I will give him car?
 
As long as he has an earthing wrist strap and experience with cmos stuff, then shouldn't be an issue. What you don't want is someone stripping the thing on a carpet wearing a nylon shirt or jumper.

I personally think it just sounds like power board damage, also check the plugs as it's a poor design and they are susceptible to corrosion
 
Andy if you can help me with this i would like to send you my BECM.

The electronic guy, said it will be better if it will be done by somebody who knows it better than him :)

Today I try to remove it.
