200 tdi - Rear hub Outer Oil Seal or NOT ???

My rear axle to my 90 Defender, K reg is 22S 13141B…. replacing my bearings I noted that when removing the old bearings an outer oil seal was installed (No 12). But looking at the LR Workshop manual being a 90” these are exempt. It could be that the last person to have it installed them by mistake but the question is should I installed new outer oil seals or leave them out??????

Not should why these seals are exempt for a 90” but installed for a 110”??

Hi I have had a look around, pm me I may have a better manual

you say its a 200tdi, and if it 'K' reg that will make it 1992 is that correct
 
It's all rather confusing:confused: this inner / outer seal stuff when it comes to L R hubs.
The inner seal, the one closest to the stub axle fitting is the one that keeps the oil / grease in [ depending on model ] the outer seal, the one nearest the drive flange is to limit oil migration from the axle casing to the hub.
My 1990 ninety does not have the outer seal as it has fully floating half shafts as noted by lynall, and oil is allowed into the hub to lube both driveshaft and flange splines along with the bearings. [ A better system in my opinion ] Later models with one piece half shafts tend to have the seal fitted and bearings just greased.
With older trucks it is often the case who fitted what over the years is unknown.:confused::rolleyes:

Thanks "Frostythor", this is a great PDF parts drawing... do you know were i can get a full copy of the manual? This would be very helpfully to have and assist on work that i need to do on the 90.

After spending some time looking at the drawing I posted in the PDF, I noticed that on section 64 page 8, the exploded view for the 90 Rear Axle Hub, has part #3 Hub Cap 'O' Ring Seal, and only 1 seal #12

where as section 64 page 12, does not have a Hub Cap "O" Seal, but has an inner and outer oil seal, #12, #23
