200 TDI lacking low rev power

Hi folks
Last time I spoke to CharlesY he rightley said check the fuel system from front to back which i did, replaced lift pump airfilter cleaned out sediment filter
check for air leakes at tank by pipe
But help stil pulls away like a 1 legged camel !!
once the turbo kicks in she flies but at low revs and it seems worse when cold
just wont pull also when i first fire her up struggles to pick up until i have let it run for a few minuets
i cant find air leak thats what it seems like any ideas please

I get that ^^^^^ feeling everyday in mine two, just thought it was 2ton of motor tring to move with no power without the turbo

I have had series lanies no turbo at least i could pull away on a slope with out thinking i should be in low range !

Is this just normal for a disco 200tdi? Can anyone enlighten us?

Also I have noticed I cannot move my the wastegate by hand?? Is it stuck or is this right? Can hear turbo whistle from around 200rpm when it kicks in and have some power

Perhaps it is only me and you with horse drawn disco,s
out of interest checked my waste gate a few months ago to adjust to 1/2"
rod as explained on here and the gate wont move by hand just thought was normal as mine hits the turbo and then we are flyin!

The waste gate rod needs a stout shove to move it. A lot more than you might think. A pull or push of about 30 pounds might be required.

Once again I suggest you clean the boost compensator on the injection pump. If it's not perfectly free to move all sorts of strange fuelling problems can occur.

If the engine runs fine once the speed is up a bit, there can't be a lot wrong, so all you need do it find the problem and fix it!

One thing at a time ...

will keep trying but off in my horseless carriage now for a few days down the caravan and need 4x4 to get to it so once there will have a check

I had a read at that, and it looks good to me.

Use the gen to strip and clean your boost compensator before attempting power increases. You may get enough more juist by returning it to the standard output.

Is WD40 and a lint free rag ok for cleaning the compensator?

I have noticed that the tamper cap on top of the compensator is missing so guess it may have been played with before.

Also when my engine is cold may throttle seem sticky on release when changing gear feel like it is slaping my foot. Not sure it's connected all. The cable is ok.

Hi folks
whent for a good drive today aprox 25miles flat out after that have decent take of power and runs well at pre turbo conditions
just hope it will be the same tommorrow when left standing overnight
have you noticed the same with yours iannotts

Yes. That will be a fine combo.

Hmmm... when you get suspicions, you take extra care!
Be sure also to check the boost pipe all the way, end to end.

Time to sort out the pedal pivot? Get your head into the corner of the floor and the WD40, and make sure the pedal swings freely on the pivot. If it is sticky now, it isn't going to get any better - until you sort it. I don't much like the sound of the foot-slapping carry-on!

Run the tank till it it is low, and toss in a can of diesel injector cleaner. Sometimes it does miracles.

You'll sort it soon.

I never travel 'flat out' i have 177'000 miles on the clock and would like at least another 50'000 more

4000rpm and 75mph max for me

my engine is in good condtion apart from this minor problem, and would like to keep it that way

Oooooooooo, seem better after a run but never great, guess that could be the pump casing expanding faster than the shaft on the compensator valve.

Have you had a read of that document I found?

have you changed your fuel filter and cleaned out the sedimentor bowl recently. If not try it and see if that helps.
