200 tdi gearbox

evening all
got a slight problem with gear shift, lever wont move into or out of 5th gear if gearbox is not rotatating, with or without engine running or with cluth in or out. if I stop the vehicle in 5th gear and dont get the lever back into neutral before the vehicle comes to a halt then the gear lever stays in 5th. the only way to get it out of 5th gear is to put the transfer lever in neutral and rais the clutch then declutch again while making a change into neutral
any one got any ideas

I have lived with it for a while now but it would be nice to get it fixed if I can

interesting - 5th gear only. do you get any strange noises or catching in any other gears? does it do it in both low and high transfer ratio?

yes a bit catchy going into 2nd and first but nothing like as bad as 5th

Common for the syncro to go on 2nd (mine's the same) but if you avoid boy racer gear changes you dont notice it.

As for your 5th, check linkages.

any idea if the fith gead linkage can be looked at without dismantling the whole vehicle?
