Hey guys, I'm new here and have been replying to a few threads in the last hour or so, please be gentle on me!
An associate of mine borrowed my 200tdi to take him where his Datsun Navara (pah!) wouldn't go. Somehow he overcooked it and bought it back with 2 bent con rods so i thought it prudent to go for a full engine rebuild, but don't tell the wife!
Anyway, despite massive amounts of photos and a considerable amount of care I seem to have cocked up putting the original cam back in. I've totally followed the procedure in the manual and have all new bearings and gaskets. Axially it has no movement and feels lovely but laterally I can move it in the block as much as I want. The (Haynes) manual shows some thrust bearings that wrap around the shaft on the 300 but this is just a plate on the 200. I've got to the stage of putting the timing gear cover on and sealing it all up before I've realised how slack my cam is, does anyone have any advice please?
If it help all the cam followers are still in the box, are these supposed to restrain it?
