Hi, I'm after a 2" suspension lift, fitting of bigger tyres and possibly spacers fitted, mainly for looks rather than off road use, any recommendations or views would be most helpfull. Its a 1997 Discovery Avimore Auto.

Your opening up a can of worms there mate, you can't just lift a vehicle and leave it.

You'll need new brake lines, new propshafts (bit of cash for the front one) the list goes on. You'll probably need to trim your fenders and fit new arches otherwise it'll look crap and tyres will scrub.

To be honest if its just for looks then I wouldn't bother, why puts lots of strain on the rest of the vehicle when you dont even need it? Then again if you have the money why not? Personally I wouldn't bother unless you need the extra articulation it will give you off road.

WOAH there whilst all those thing certainly help they are by no means necessary. If you stick to a 2" lift then you will need extended brakelines and that's all you'll need. especially if your sure that your not going offroading in it. As to cutting your wheel arches and bumper. again only if your offroading and putting huge tyres on it. other wise fit extended bumpstops and you'll have no problems at all. Don't fit spacers they put to much strain on the hubs.

i thought once you went over a 1.5" lift that the front prop yokes are getting to the limit of thier angle. know 2 people with 2" lifted discos and both had to get disco2 front prop or have special wide jokes put on.

sorry if i'm wrong, i know from what i've heard rather than actually doing one meself for a landy, only done lifts on a hilux and jeep. the jeep was a fking nighmare, new props and castor correction etc, pain in the arse.

Nah if you were going to do a lot of off roading then wide yoke props would be a good idea but for posing round town it wouldn't be a problem. No extreme articulation you see. People always seem to make thing harder/more expensive then they need to be. Probably to justify all the money they spent doing theirs up. No one likes to say "yes I spent £xxx that I didn't need to". If wanted a pose mobile I'd fit a bodylift instead of a suspension lift.

What size tyre are you thinking of putting on?

I have 235/85 r16 on my disco with no lift needed still fot full articulation :D

No worrys about brake lines, yoke angles, castor angles needed.

If you do a search on here there is a tyre fitting guide for the disco:)

OH its so good to be 'in the know' which up until six months ago I never had a clue!! Right my 2" lift was from craddocks and came with the 9000 shocks. First the shocks come without gaiters so do not forget to order them. Next fit longer brake lines, I have driven my car from the UK back to Spain over some 2500km and no vibes from the props ect. Off road so far no problems with props, I have only witnessed one problem on a discovery with a 2" lift and it was the gaiter on the front prop being pulled out of position on extreme articulation, this does not happen on my car and have no idea why. It may be worth bearing in mind that I have fitted jackable sills and f + r bumpers which lower the cars slightly. First problem I encountered is when jacking up the rear on one side the spring on that side will dislocate and needs help back into it seat when letting down. Next the 265/75/16 tyre WILL foul the bodywork depite what you may have read and thats WITH the lift! The problem is the rear lower part of the rear wheel arch, it will need grinding back and painting. The front tyres will rub on the suspension but you can adjust the steering stops to sort this.

Other than that go for it, look out for pics coming soon!

regards

Dave
