2" lift springs

Hi, i've just fitted a 2" lift kit to my '85 90 you'll need some spring compressors and some spanners cos you'll have to remove the shocks 1st, then it's just a matter of puling the springs out once you've compressed them. I fitted springs, shocks and new front turrets, as mine were rusted through :(. Shouldn't take too long to do as it's all quite straight forward when you look at it, though now i've fitted mine the front end does sit higher than the rear ( anyone got any ideas as to why cos all the springs seemed to be the same ? ) hope this helps
 
tiki al , you may find you have put your springs on back to front , some off these lift kits come with stickers on two off the springs that say " heavy duty discovery rear " these should go on the front not the back , i've done this conversion several times and had the same thing happen . also make sure the ones you have on the front now haven't altered your dif angle to much , if they have you need to swap them around asap or you will run it dry .
also 2" is about as much as you can go without changing radius arms and trailing arms . among other things.
i put 3" lift kit on mine and it's a pain in the arse it leads to all kinds off problems .
 
aye a 2 inch is the most common lift mod. reason is cause any more and there are all sorts of problems to overcome.

beware, some springs are also handed. ie right and left side.
 
yer not jocking ormus , if someone had told me before i did mine i would not have done it , infact i'm about to take it all off and return it to standered it's just not worth the cost .
the springs and shockers cost approx £300 , but by the time i'd finished it cost around £1100 (gulp) , a complete pain in the arris..................
 
Couldn't be happier with mine now, the shock turret was so rotten and just snapped going over a pot hole so seeing as i was going to have to take it all apart to fix it and i was going to lift it i'd do it all at once, and it drives so much better now it's got new suspension ( don't think it's had any money spent on it in 20 years). now i can't wait to take it off road, just need somewhere to take it !!

Let me know what you find locally - I'm only down the road and we're not as well off for locations as those 'up North or West. :(
 
tryed to fit lift springs today but could not get front bottom shocker nut to turn without turning shocker shaft ,tried vice grips ect but no luck,all the shockers are the same ,would i be better cutting the old ones off and replacing them with new ones or is there a way of getting old ones off. Jim:confused:
 
get a suspension bush from a 111, place it next to the nut, set fire to it then run away. the resulting explosion should take the nut off
 
use a nut splitter or hacksaw them off and replace them, i would NOT reccomend holding the shock with mole grips as when you undo the nut the grips will slip off and cause large ammounts of pain (as i stupidly found out to my cost when the grips clonked me one in the mush ) plus you'll find the fitting of new shocks now will save you having to do the stripping down and installing again at a later date
