Can anyone tell me why there are 2 sockets on the back? Both appear to be aerial sockets, one red one black. Its the same on the soft dash classics.

They are not aerial sockets they are RCA outlets for a CD shuttle or AMP.

I don't think they are. I have a separate multi pin plug for the CD and the amp is separate too.
I believe they simply have 2 separate aerials, one on each rear window. Something about a better reception as you move around.

If they are aerial sockets it's called something like "diversity aerials", supposed to give improved reception.

That is what has been suggested although I assumed it was just the name of the stereo system as that is diversity too. Apparently one is fm and one am/fm. We shall see.
Thanks

One for AM and one for FM? I think the optimum length is different for each if I remember correctly what NikTheGeek said a while back. This threadmay or may not help: http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f10/aerial-269935.html

I always connect up the radio and try the aerial in the one that gives the best reception on all AM/FM bands. Sometimes they use a second port to link into another device 8 track:fighting2: or sat nav (early types needed a aerial) FM does require a shorter aerial but will work on a AM one as well. So shame a picture wasn't posted as this could answer a thousand words.
