Sport 2.7 TDV6 engine Whine

New here but had my RRS for a while, I was driving home today no massive issue until I stopped outside the house.

When I rev the engine it has this whine noise, I have left a link as it describes what I can’t. But it sounds like a supercharger.

Update: went outside and now it is running fine, the normal big noise as you’d expect, then sat idling for a few minutes it’s back to whining.

Could anyone please give me a steer? When you look at the front of the engine the noise is coming from the left hand side.

I'd be checking the pulleys on the alternator belt route before thinking more expensive stuff.
Remover the belt and physically check each pulley, they can create more noise when warm and then move on from there unless your really sure.

Welcome,Mark beat me to it,I was busy bringing him up to date with world news, you must get a radio that picks up BBC news mate.

Hi thanks for the replies, I am going to do a drop test on the battery this morning and then whip off the belt

Also I forgot to mention that the power hasn’t dropped, no fault lights and no smoke. It does sound like a pulley or a bearing, but I would rather be safe than sorry.

Alternators can also produce a loud whine either from the bearings or a failure of the windings.

Plus 1 what others have said , alas u haven’t got a supercharger fitted , lol, just a VGT turbo

enclosed a pic so u can see what that front belt operates, ie,
Water pump
Ac compressor
Alternator
Power steering
Tensioner
Torsional vibration damper

If u find it’s the alternator plse ensure u only fit a Denso , otherwise it can cause a lot of issues

I think some RRS also have ACE or whatever they call it now, and that also has a belt driven pump.
