Actually ive just corrected myself anyway - it says Turbocharged Direct Injection

Then under that cover it mentions the intercooler too - its so confused.

A big I means injection, a small i means intercooler if I remember correctly.

TDI: Turbocharged Direct Injection
TDi: Turbocharged Diesel Intercooled

D means something different in each context.

Boydy when I see the photo of your 300 there it reminds me, can you confirm the belt you put on your to bypass the PAS pump? I couldnt find a 1400 so I ended up just buying the PAS bits too but I will buy a belt and try it incase this PAS box leaks and the MOT is due so I could swap it over if ever I needed.

That new seal sort the oil issue OK? What sort of speed are you getting out of yours now and what MPG? The LT77 holding out OK?

Reet... I thought it was that, may have been summin like 1420. Ill look when im next in if i rememebr for you!

New oil seal, sorted, finally. Dnt leak, am happy, all is good!

Speed: Well, (with the original gearing) itll cruise at 70 easily, touching 80 if pushed. 60 is really easy.

Gearbox: Appears to be ok, i havn't noticed any more noise or issues, it needs an oil change but nothing else.

Actually, i have noticed more box noise, but mainly cos the engine is quieter - seriously, with some nice cheap oil, its amazingly quiet!

MPG's, about 25-30, 30 if pushed. I have found the extra power much more interesting than the economy to be honest... :)

Im changing the xfer box for a disco one if i can find a good one going cheap, cos with it as it is, first gear is useless for wet roads really, and in second if pushed when pulling away round a corner itll spin the inside wheels.
You gotta be trying though.

Really, that much power!

Quite, ah the GF will be pleased, I drove up to Inverness during the summer, by the time we got there I had a heardache and had resorted to driving with my elbows with my fingers in my ears, every 100 or so mile we had a "quiet time" where I drove at 45ish along a dual carrageway area.

I know the 300tdi is a lot quieter but in the Disco there is so much stuff between you and the engine, and the bonnet has soundproofing and seals much better than the Defender so I wasn't sure what its going to be like in the 90.

I'll get my piccies on soon!

well, with the carpets in ,no headlining, no underbonnet soundproofing at all, you can have a chat over it.

With my NA though, i used to shout over it or turn the stereo up - at least thats musical! And i have a K&N on it...

The best bit in my mind with the TDi, fit a K&N again, pull away... Growl... WHOOSH!!! :D

I see you got the same problem there as i have Boydy, the KnN is directly in line with the pulleys so when you go into a foot of water they throw mud direct into the air intake - not great! Got a cunning solution though...

Have you taken the fan off?

yeah i have no fan an all currently, aint had time to fit my leccy ones.

can you link me to that inline highflow filter you found oddie? I kinda want to *cough*tune the tdi a touch, so i want a higher flow air filter, but also want to fit a snorkel too, trewy style.

Think mines a 2.5td as the oil filler is a push on not screw on:mad:
Looks like ive bought a pile of **** then eh ?

You ain't necessarily got a pile of poo! i got an '88 Td, 111000mls, still pulls darn well etc etc. There's bad 'uns n' there's good 'uns......... also depends on how they've been looked after. If you have got a decent one..... which you may have as it's still goin'! just make sure you change oil and all filters etc (as often as you can) and stay on top of all servicing and when you run it, don't drive hard til its warmed up, you know, all the common sense stuff.

Regards E.:D

The TD engine has the old style rocker cover (steel) like the 2 1/4 petrol engine had where as the tdi has the flat rocker cover. also the TD turbo fits high up on the engine where as the tdi is lower down the side of the engine block. i think the TD was fitted up to 1990 but dont hold me to this...vivnap...

td's int all that bad if you aren't in a rush. I did a fred some time back when i had me td converted saying that if you convert you should pay for the conversion in less than a year just by the increased fuel economy, not to mention that it is way better to drive and actually pulls up hills!

Also with a TD you never quite know when it's going to suddenly fatally cataclysmically fail which was always a worry, although mine never did! They both go well on veg oil.
