If you run 7.50 x 16 / 235/85R16 and a Disco transfer box, then chances are it will be sluggish and over geared. You need quite a juiced up Tdi to make this work, else they are not great at all.
That's exactly what my 200tdi disco box was running, / now is running as far as wheels are concerned, absolutely no problems on any road or towing..

Ps I added lots of sound proofing to body and bonnet, it's quite quiet..

I now get 32mpg, it will trickle along on the flat at 30mph when the engine is warm in 5th gear, otherwise 4th. I tow up to a ton of boat on trailer without problems, you just change down slightly more often..

Are you saying 32mpg @ 30mph?
You must enjoy the pain of driving the thing, my V8 RRC would probably return not far short of that :p
Sorry if I've mis-read the post.

No I get 32mph average mpg, that's country and A roads, hitting 60 where I can, not dual carriageways and motorways pushing the flying brick at 70mph ( true mph by gps)
Last time I ventured up the A1 I got it down to 27mpg.
Being on a disco transfer box it's quite relaxed cruising at a constant 60-70 mph.

People say the disco box is too high with 750 or 238/85 tyres, but I was meaning even with those tyres it will take 30mph in top gear ( on the flat).
