hi guys

Firstly I would just like to ask has anyone on this forum straight piped there diesel p38? If so what would you describe the sound of it after you had done this? Is it worth doing? Does it ruin the quite cockpit on a motorway drive?

Also has anyone ever fitted an aftermarket alarm system to there p38?

Cheers rangie crew

I haven't heard of anyone fitting an aftermarket alarm. The alarm immobiliser system on a p38 is very good as standard and the cars are bad enough to get in to with the key when they throw a wobbler why do you need another alarm.

Curious as to what it would sound like!? Iv seen 2 maybe 3 videos on YouTube but there of poor quality, iv been taking my cars to a guy by me for years and he will do me a complete system for about £200-£300 full stainless steel with a lifetime warranty you choose what tips you want to come out the back, you can control the noise threw resonators should you desire.
I will answer your question with a question TomCat, with all of the above mentioned, have you ever been for an MOT and found your exhaust blowing from one of your sections of exhaust!? I’m sure manny have so this would eradicate that ever becoming a problem with it being stainless steel but also for the benefits of a lifetime warranty should it ever fail you just take it back and it is replaced.

As for the alarm system, I don’t like the old old systems on p38 there temperamental and are not fitted with a reliable microwave sensor like most good systems now.
The type of alarm I’m after does as follow....
The alarm can sense proximity detection, ignition tampering, door opening and vibration sensing . Any event is shown on the remote via radio signal, showing how the alarm was triggered.
It features immobilisation, automatic window closing, trunk release, automatic central locking and remote engine start.
All of which is displayed on a little hand held unit attached to your keyfob, it even has proximity sensor, and boot release!? Who doesn’t want boot release, have you ever walked out the supermarket carry 500 million things only to get to your boot and push that round button!?

Also imagine on those cold mornings when your getting ready for work you simply press the engine start button and by the time you walk out to it it’s lovely and warm and your seat is too, now I know someone will say that’s silly because someone can jump in and drive off but they can’t! The car remains locked and unless the key is inserted into the barrel anyone trying to steel it by selecting a gear would automatically kill the engine, cleaver ay!?

So guys that’s my reasons iv bought the alarm iv mention it was not cheap so I know it’s a good one the little fob you get with it is awesome I will do some photos of it when I get the car back, the main one was for the exhaust this is something I’m thinking of doing and wanted feedback so keep it coming guys

Cheers

You may find some issues with wiring the alarm as the p38 wiring all runs through he becm and is not wired like most cars, I wish you luck, it does sound like a nice alarm.

Forget it and straight pipe. You are on a looser. Leave it alone and save yourself a world of pain.

Hi guys,

I got my car back around 5pm tonight been at it most of the day, I can report it was not as hard as I thought it was going to be, alarm is in and fitted beautifully, doors lock and unlock boot opens as well I may install some better gas struts so as I press the boot unlock button it lifts up and then I will push it back down, to lock just think this would finish it off!? Thoughts on that??
Remote start is really cool and I keep showing everyone and they all love it especially the kids, I got the Mrs to try and drive off in it as I started the engine from remote and unlocked the doors but when she tried to select a gear it cut out so it’s been tried and tested it’s a complete success I’m super happy, if anyone wants to know what alarm iv used get in touch and I will gladly help

Other than the boot and remote start, the P38 had those features built in from the factory. I can't see why you wanted to pay to put in features already there. But heyho, your money.

I wouldn't straight pipe the diesel as it'd sound terrible, but I would go for a light burble. Also, keep in mind new MoT rules regarding exhausts, plus if it is excessively loud it can be failed on that. It is down to the testers judgement though.

My key failed so badly numerous times the transponder played up and it’s an old system, let’s face it most of these cars were made in the 90’s, I decided to modernise it, since doing so I haven’t looked back, which models had these features how easy is it to get it installed? Who would do this?
Regrding the exhaust I took the middle silencer out and hollowed the cat, it still looks like a cat, all I have now is the two rear boxes, it sounds really nice and to top all that off I installed a Ronbox (synergy) all I can say about that is wow transformed the car into a beast! And the sound it just sounds awesome, best of all my mates V8 didn’t stand a chance, boys will be boys, also I have now installed the xtron built in dvd headrests kids love it as I’m always driving the damn thing with my foot planted so it’s burbles away, I hope this helps someone out there the mods I done just brought the lovely p38 back to life, sounds lovely but it’s all down to you and how you control your right foot as to whether you want sound.
The car sailed threw the mot without me having to mention of the exhaust system, the guys at the garage just commented on the sound and how lovely it is, only problem I’d say is everyone now things it’s a v8 but that ain’t a bad thing I guess
