Hi all,
My usually good starter is refusing to fire up , recent new battery so spinning over nicely but no attempt to fire. Clear fuel pipe to injector pump has a big air bubble. Am i right in thinking to prove fuel is getting to the pump that if i remove the clear fuel pipe into injector pump from the filter housing that fuel should pump out of here with ignition on. Not tested anything yet.

Pull the connector other side going into the filter.

Yours won’t run pump with ignition (as standard mine does with hotstart configuration). This is the fuel relay you may need to jump

Air bubbles will be a problem if it’s gets sucked into the FIP it will likely stall and airlock.
9/10 times this is the spill pipes going from injector - injector have split.

Easy fix either chop the split bits off if you have enough length, or replace for a tenner. 2 meters will do all the pipes including under the inlet manifold, MAP and FIP to inj 1
 
If you don't have fuel bridging the relay then lift-pump suspect. If you get fuel at FIP bridging the relay then the engine ECU may have lost sync to BECM. There's also the crash-switch thingy that ides behind the kick-panel.
 
Well folks, bit of a mystery this one, i removed the inlet pipe to the fuel filter housing and cranked the engine but i didn't any fuel from the tank. i will add that as the vehicle is stood for long periods i do remove the battery lead, i had a thought and locked the vehicle with the key in the door then unlocked then locked and unlocked with the remote, tried the cranking again and heard it trying to fire up, then eventually firing up and running , switched off, re connected the fuel pipe to the filter housing and fired up again, warmed up and went for a 10 mile run, all seems fine and starting as before which is always very good, hot or cold . Maybe something had lost its way but there was nothing showing on the dash. Don't like these kind of fixes.

Lift-pump on a '95 won't pump while cranking but should while the glows are on, I think. You need at least 3 consecutive glows to get it to fire. Beru are the best I have used if you are replacing them.
 
If the in tank pump is getting lazy or even stopped working ,less than a quarter tank will make starting difficult and when running the injection pump will pull air though from the tank ,,,see if you can hear the tank pump, if you cant try banging the tank hard with your hand sometimes they come back to life o_O;)
 
Chances are the lift pump is nearing the end of its life. Check for any leaks to see where air could be getting in and allowing the diesel to run back. Leak off pipes are common.
