I have a fault with my 1998 P38.

When on the motorway at a constant speed, then I lift off the throttle suddenly the injector / engine light comes on and i have no throttle response for 5 / 10 seconds - which is a long time on a motorway!

Then the light goes out and the power comes back.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Number four injector bad connection or failing maybe favourite.

Agree that`s no1 suspect. No2 is worn FIP. Testbook should show fault but may not distinguish between the two.
Changing no4 injector is £150, removal of inlet manifold, and set of gaskets. Set of cranked diesel spanners a big help. If doing that replace water hose at back of block. Coupla quid but a bitch to get to and can cause total coolant loss. Do glow-plugs too if old?
Changing FIP is more involved. Personally I chickened out and got it done by a BMW garage, but depends on you.
Before any of above try double dosing it with diesel additive cleaners. May not do much, and anything it does may be temporary, but it`s clean easy, may come up trumps, and I`m going on line soon to buy some shares in a chemical company so want some return on my investment.
