Do you remember us taljing about the rattling from my fip, since doing the intank pump it has stopped, so could it have been the pump trying to compensate for the lack of flow? What's your thoughts?

Injection pump internal pressure pump will suck fuel from tank but you will have power loss on hills or when engine is under load. Not much inside the pump that can rattle if everything is in tolerance.

Strange, it runs very well for a high mileage engine at 200,000mls but then it has akso been looked after very well.
Ive all the history from 2005!!

If it's never been done before maybe a pump refurb will do it good, things do wear specially at that mileage.

From your information your car sounds like a bit of an abortion. Is it manual or auto?
It's an auto, know its never going set world alight but it's more I read more it seems to not be quite right. As far as I know all the engine has had done is the gay little air filter. It's only on 100k, and had a very good history up to 90 odd. Feller I got it off has only don't the filter and paint job.

Yes, I did a 380Km run 5 up with the MAP pipe off cruising at 110/120Kmh, no problems.

If the MAP sensor fails the ECU runs a substitute fuel Map whereby the fuel quantity is limited reducing available power. Therefore car does NOT run normally. It runs but not normally as you seem to be suggesting. It is not possible.

Is it standard other than that? Oil is normal in turbo pipes as long as they are not dripping wet. If you squeeze in top turbo pipe it should expand as engine is revved. Check that pressure pipe from manifold to MAP sensor is sound leak free and clear. Do that then report back.

Well, opened the tank and removed the gubbins, more muck than a school kitchen U bend in the white plastic housing... removed the filter bag and soaked everything thoroughly with petrol, drying overnight in the shed now and will test drive it in the morning, but I'm pretty sure that must have been it, the inside of the housing was 5mm thick with black sludge and the filter bag on the bottom of the pump looked like it just crawled out of a swamp!

Someone been putting veggie oil in it? Sounds like something has been growing in there.

Had pull out 2 x 1,000 litre plastic central heating fuel tanks this year and wash them out due to bacterial growth in the diesel. Not a pleasant job.

At the price diesel is you would think it would already have additive in it. In particular heating oil that maybe stood for long periods unused.

The trouble is the additive only has a short term effect and I don't use a lot of heating oil, at €1 a litre it's too expensive, I have stock of the antibacterial stuff now. Heating oil here is red diesel which is handy as I use it for my tractor & digger:D

Ok, thanks for the advice thus far... so I replaced the in tank pump and there was a slight improvement in up hill grunt, but not a lot and the original problem still persists. Off the mark sometimes I get boost, most of the times its flat as a pancake. Going up hills is fine up to a point and then the boost just drops off and its back to 10j performance. Take foot of pedal and reapply and it usually comes back on boost for a short while (10 - 20 seconds) before dropping off again. So started thinking perhaps it was gulping air into the fuel sysytem somewhere... checked the fuel filter seal, it's fine and working as it should. No obvious bubbles in clear lines, leaks or wet patches when left running on the drive for an hour.

Last night got right pi$$3d off with it and pulled over and jammed the binoculars box between the pedals to hold it at 2500rpm while I checked the pipes over yet again... First off I noticed that the leakoff pipes are 'thumping' particularly hard when held between finger and thumb, most noticeable across cylinders 3 & 4. I pulled the leak off pipes and they are dry, not a drop of fuel in them at either 2500rpm or on tickover? She has been returning pathetic MPG since the problem occured, averaging 14mpg over the last few weeks, so I reccon that there's no fuel going back to the tank, but like I said, there are no discernable leaks and the oil level isn't rising noticeably over the passed 2 weeks despite daily checks for fear of the rings needing replaced... any ideas would be great, because its almost like a fuel sucking vampire is sucking the life and fuel right outta her before flying off without a trace :? I would really appreciate some further guidance, because she is costing me about £0.70 per mile at the moment and she's my daily works truck. Thanks guys.
