Hi, this is my first post here.

I'm looking to get an old Range Rover. Must be diesel as I run all my vehicles on biodiesel. There are two that I'm interested in at the moment, one has the 2.4 VM turbodiesel, the other is 2.5 TDI.

Which of the two engines is more economical? Is one known to be more reliable than the other? Also, what common faults should I look for? I have never owned a Range Rover before. My budget is £1000.

Your help is much appreciated!

Thanks, Andy

I would want £250 to take the VM one away - they are that bad.The only one smiling would be the one who sold it to you.

Well I'm currently the winning bidder on the 2.5 TDI and it has less than a day to go, so fingers crossed! If I win it then it's getting a camo paint job :)

I find my 200tdi good enough and it manages about 28mpg about town/back and forth to work + maybe slightly more on a motorway run.Lots of people slate the 2.4/2.5 vm's while theres some people love them.I suppose its luck of the draw just like any car whether you get a good or bad one.
