Looking for a 2.25 Landrover petrol engine, for fitment in a Series One, as a temporary measure until the original engine is rebuilt.

Pretty much any condition will be fine, so long as it hasnt thrown a rod through the side of the block or similar.

So long as it can be started with minimal expense, and they are tough things, it will do. Due to the age of the vehicle, it is not subject to MOT testing, so knocks, smoke, rattles, leaks etc are unimportant.

So if anyone has an old series petrol engine propping up their shed or whatever, please do your bit to keep the nations motoring heritage on the road, and make yerself a few beer tokens at the same time.
PMs please, I can collect from anywhere in the South of England, or as far Norf as about Brum.

Link and number don't work for me either, which is a shame as one day I'd like a 2.25 petrol to chuck in when i rebuild my original as well! Also in south east so perhaps I can have it when your done, @Turboman ? ;):)

When I find one, and have finished with it, I will give you first dibs. It will be needed for a shortish time, maybe 6 months to 1 year, if that.

Perfect. My landy is still in bits in the shed, so an engine rebuild is some way off yet :D:eek:

I'll keep an eye out for a likely candidate for us. Where abouts are you?

Might be ok, but it doesnt appear to have a sump or manifolds. and the series one stuff wouldnt be compatible. So quite a bit of extra expense to get it going in the S1. If it was local I might go and have a look, but West Mids is a bit too far for something like that.
Thanks, though, keep em peeled! :)

The low comper would have done, shame they took the head off it, that means extra work as well. Really just looking for something roughish but running straightaway, maybe just plugs, points and a fanbelt. My mate doesnt want to spend a lot, so he has the money to spend on the S1 engine.

On the page with the low comper was a 2.5 NA, also bid at £50, that could be a good buy for someone, although no good for the S1 project either.

Cheers for looking! :)

Hi, I'm new to the forum and have 2.25 petrol engine I'm taking out of a '64 series 2a, it's ex military so 24v but in very good order and it's still in the car so can be seen running and driven, let me know if anyone is interested, I'm near Bordon in Hamshire.
Cheers Bob

Thanks for that, and that is probably a good price. But a bit too much for the use we have in mind. Temporary, while the S1 engine is rebuilt.
Also, for a maximum of a years use, it probably isn't worth change from 24v alternator.
Thanks anyway!
