I have a Series with 2.25 petrol. When I got it it had the oil breather on the top of the engine missing. I got one to put on but recently realised there’s a lose pipe that looks like it’s meant to connect to the breather. The breather I have has no connections on it so I assume I’ve bought the wrong type. I’ve attached a picture of the one I have and the pipe can be seen behind/to the left of it. Am I meant to have one like this?: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/282646014762

I had this pipe on the breather which connects to another pipe to the air filter system but I changed the dustbin filter for a mesh one that sits directly on top of the carb, I ditched that pipe at the time. It's supposed to be part of the emissions system but it never really worked so it's only real purpose is for originality.

I tend to remove all emissions gear on old cars. It never works and often makes the engine run worse and produce more pollution. I think these systems were designed to get the vehicle to meet a test when new and little thought was given to what happened a few years down the line when the engine was worn and the system blocked up.
