Hi, I know this has probably be done again and again but...
I've a 1975 S3 109 Pickup, diesel. It's ex-MOD and first registered in 1986.
The original engine number (as on the ID plate) seems to check out ok (906......), however, the number stamped on the engine is (as far as I can tell) 17306. There's no 1's or 7's in the V5 engine number and I read somewhere when they left the MOD and had the engine reconditioned they ground out the original number and stamped in a new one to log who and where did the reconditioning. Is this true and if so, is there any way of proving the engines originality?
Thanks, Sammy
