You would think that I would be able to answer this question myself or at least find out the answer because to alleviate some boredom in my retirement I regularly collect and deliver Land Rovers all over the UK for my local dealer - but to be honest I can't find a satisfactory explanation and it's bugging me. I own a 2014 2.2 TDCI Defender XS Station Wagon bought from the Land Rover dealer in Bristol. It's in pristine condition with the current mileage at about 13,500.

In order to carry out a smooth take up when releasing the clutch (on the move) I have to consciously pause between each gear change, in other words do it slowly and all is reasonably well. But I have driven plenty of identical Defenders where you can change gear "normally" - no clonking from the linkage or slight hesitation because the transmission rotating parts are not quite in synchronisation. I would really appreciate any helpful comments.
