Hi Guys,

on the way home and up a hill yesterday the engine developed a compressed air gushing noise (not a whistle which i think is odd) as i was going up hill, it came on all of a sudden, this lead to a loss of power and eventually the little engine light of joy came on....

now i have replaced the intercooler with an alive intercooler (it was a nightmare to fit as i reckon its 3/4 of an inch too narrow and almost pinches the rad) so i would imagine its not coming from that, i checked the top hose, took it off and there appears to be no splits. the bottom hose i've never had off, it is the wire armoured style one but wasnt showing anything screamingly obvious.

when i've looked at hose kits this morning there are 3 that are involved, there is an elbow joint that i'm not sure where that fits? also the sounds seems to be coming from the passenger side when your driving it.....

any thoughts?

thanks
Rob

There was a warranty/recall fix for the hoses from the turbo to the intercooler. The first pipe off the turbo was a rubber 90 degree bend with large diameter at the turbo and small diameter onto the pipe to the intercooler. The 90 degree bend used to split. When boost hit a certain pressure there would be a loss of power and limp mode. Restarting the engine would clear the problem until that high boost pressure opened the split and limp mode again. The fix was a single piece pipe (steel and rubber) from the turbo to the intercooler.

I just had the RAC out to it, he couldnt see any splits or loose pipes or intercooler damage either, 2 error codes one for the MAF (i know this is ok as was replaced last year) one was 06BC which we dont know wtf that means. they have called me a big orage taxi! of to the dealer it goes......

yay who needs money anyway!

See attachment for the fault code 06BC.
Had to change my MAF sensor last week, the original was a ford item and replaced like for like with one from an indy transit parts supplier for under £30, genuine ford item. Less than 3 minutes to change it. Check the part on yours, lift the plug off, the numbers are on the top of the MAF sensor. Should read 8V21 12B579 AA if it is a ford one which it probably is, identified by FoMoCo near the part number. There is a lot of bum info about Puma sensors but I found the correct one for the 2.2 (Chassis number starting CA) is as the number above. The earlier 2.4 MAF part number (up to chassis number BA999999) was 6C11 12B579 AA. Many suppliers list the wrong one. Prices vary massively, typically £75 - 100 from indy's but a lot less for the same item from a ford transit parts supplier. (Puma IS a transit engine) Didn't dare enquire as to getting one from a LR main dealer, they add £100 on just to walk in the showroom.
