Hey guys, I am thinking about buying a Freelander I 2.0 Di and was wondering about the fuel economy. Is this websites figures true? 1991 BMW 850i Automatic

It says 38-48 mpg's extra urban (31-40 u.s. gallons)

What have some of you guys gotten? Also would chiptuning help some with the fuel economy?

Additional information on reliability, off-road/bad weather performance, and the overall drive would also help alot.

In terms of my driving, I go hiking, hunting, and snowboarding alot so off road driving will be frequent. Occasionally (once a month or 2) I will try to do a long road trip of 1000+ km.

Thanks guys

No figures are wrong because its not a Freelander. Think of the aerodynamics of the car.

Freelanders a brilliant car -Look for the TD4 (just my opinion)

Do a search on here for the EGR bypass, Synergy 2.

good luck

The figures look about right for the Di, depending on which source you use it may vary +/- a few mpg.

As mentioned, if you can afford one get the Td4, it's a slightly later diesel, more torque, more power, good economy and reliability.

Before buying any Freelander search for these terms on here, then decide if you still want one. I did the background and still allowed mmy wife to buy a Td4 ;)

There are more, but those three will get you started, you'll find other potential issues by reading up on those three :)

As to whether it will be any good for long runs on the motorway, yup, take a view at the 'do you trust your gaylander to do 1200 miles' thread for some pretty definite answers :)
