1st time on Salisbury Plain

anyone got any tips about going on to the plain for the first time?

I have heard the one about the big thing coming the other way with a big tube sticking out of the front.

I will be approaching from Devizes

stay out of the areas your not supposed to be on..or you will ruin it for others who drive where there supposed to be

Carry an so map you will find it easy to get lost the first few times!

Few of us did a trip there just before christmas, great day out. OS Landranger map 184 is the map you'll need but once you get onto the plain it gets quite hard to follow on the map as theres so many tracks, satnav probably the best way to locate exactly where you are at any point in time.

The tracks are pretty well signposted as to what are byways, where you can't go, and where you're likely to get shot/crushed by tanks/etc so follow them and you should be ok.
